[Hiring] Software Engineer Associate @CareFirst

Role Description

Assists with the design, developing/coding, testing, and documentation of application programs for computer systems.

• Works with appropriate stakeholders to define system scope and objectives.
• Performs analysis and debugging of computer software and/or equipment.
• Performs in accordance with established project standards and processes.
• Breaks down software requirements and assists with the integration of software systems.

Essential Functions:

• Performs software analysis, including requirements and use case development and design.
• Writes source code to design specifications.
• Performs software testing including developing and running automated unit tests.
• Drafts and executes structured automated test cases.
• Provides software documentation.
• Analyzes, debugs, and corrects reported software bugs and implements enhancements.
• Updates user and software documentation.
• Develops and/or analyzes interface design documentation, and helps the team estimate features.
• Compiles, assesses, and reports data results from software testing and analysis.
• Complies with hardware and software systems standards and procedures.
• Extends open-source libraries and systems as necessary to meet the needs of the team.
• Performs operations & maintenance (O&M) of existing systems.
• Identifies areas for improvement and streamlining.
• Writes system design and application code documentation.
• Interprets results, gathers and documents technical and functional user requirements and specifications.
• Participates in regular meetings, providing status on current tasks.
• Participates in peer reviews of software development artifacts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
• Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, C, Python, .NET Framework, Java, etc.).
• Knowledge and understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC).
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
• Exposure to cloud technologies concept (e.g. AWS, Azure).
• Exposure to database technologies (e.g. cloud, SQL, Oracle, Mongo DB, PostgreSQL, etc.).
• Knowledge of Agile Framework & Agile Delivery.
• Knowledge of test-first practices including Test-Driven Development (TDD) for unit tests and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) for automated acceptance tests.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming.

Requirements

• Must live in the Maryland, DC, or Northern Virginia area as you will be required to travel into the office occasionally.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without Sponsorship.
