Role Description

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations β€” from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

The AWS RDS PostgreSQL Contributors team is looking for a remote PostgreSQL Software Development Engineer to provide PostgreSQL database engine internals and community expertise. You will join a world-class team of engineers collaborating in the open with the PostgreSQL project.

You will contribute to open source PostgreSQL or related projects at the core project source code level (primarily C language), and while directly interacting with the PostgreSQL Development Group on the postgresql.org mailing lists (typically pgsql-hackers) or the equivalent for other projects. Your work will include, but is not limited to:

  • Features
  • Fixes
  • Drivers
  • Extensions
  • Patch review
  • Testing
  • Security
  • Performance
  • Benchmarking
  • Development/commitfest discussions

Key job responsibilities include:

  • Author and review PostgreSQL core database engine code for the central PostgreSQL open source git repository.
  • Discuss designs, architecture, bugs, and other PostgreSQL community business on the public PostgreSQL mailing lists.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Named mention in the PostgreSQL project public git logs at least 30 times over a timespan of at least 8 years.
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
