[Hiring] Senior Software Engineer @PlayOn! Sports

Role Description

PlayOn Sports is hiring a Senior Engineer to lead frontend delivery across React web and React Native mobile ticketing experiences. This role is for an engineer who operates with little supervision, owns meaningful product and technical outcomes, and improves team execution through mentorship, engineering quality, and production reliability practices.

The outcomes you’ll deliver:

• Extend GoFan product capabilities:
  • Ship web and mobile experiences that enable new payment methods, product types, and experiences within the GoFan ecosystem.
• Grow revenue per event beyond the ticket:
  • Build the checkout, concessions, and fundraising experiences that make it easy for fans to add a concession order or a donation to their ticket purchase.
• Protect trust-critical journeys at peak:
  • Keep purchase, pass access, and redemption fast and correct under Friday-night load across React web and React Native, and improve checkout consistency across platforms.
• Raise the frontend bar:
  • Own the GoFan and Box Office app updates, accessibility by default, CI-gated releases with clear rollback readiness, and incident follow-through, while mentoring engineers through design and code review.

In this role, you can expect to:

• Build the web and mobile flows that bring new kinds of organizers and events onto GoFan, and the checkout and concessions/fundraising experiences that grow revenue per event.
• Own purchase, pass access, and redemption across React web and React Native, including the Box Office app, with an eye toward consistency across platforms.
• Partner with backend teams on API contracts, data correctness, and failure handling in trust-critical paths.
• Strengthen frontend architecture to improve maintainability, delivery speed, and cross-team contribution safety.
• Improve observability for key user journeys with meaningful telemetry, alerts, and post-release verification, and drive testing strategy across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers for high-risk workflows.
• Lead incident triage, production debugging, and root-cause follow-through for customer-impacting issues.
• Use AI-assisted development tools as a core part of your workflow, for code generation, review, testing, and debugging, while owning the correctness and quality of everything you ship.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, implementation guidance, and hands-on code collaboration, and work closely with product, design, and platform peers to turn roadmap goals into shippable slices.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong frontend and product-delivery depth.
• Strong production experience with React, TypeScript, and modern frontend application architecture.
• Experience delivering mobile product work with React Native.
• A strong grasp of API integration patterns, error handling, and data-validation approaches in production systems.
• Demonstrated ability to own complex initiatives with limited oversight and strong cross-functional communication.
• A testing and reliability mindset, including practical experience with unit, integration, and functional test coverage.
• Experience operating in high-traffic or time-sensitive domains such as ticketing, e-commerce, payments, or event operations.
• The judgment to balance product velocity with quality, operational stability, and long-term maintainability.

Requirements

• Ownership over Participation:
  • You take responsibility for achieving holistic outcomes, prioritize key objectives, and adapt quickly when situations require a different approach. You follow through even against the toughest challenges.
• Team over Stars:
  • You are a bridge builder, establishing processes and relationships with teams outside your own. You work to rally around common goals, find win-win solutions, compromise when necessary, and help others succeed.
• Growth over Comfort:
  • You are driven by a desire to grow and actively seek opportunities to expand your comfort zone, skills, and confidence. You embrace new challenges with curiosity, accepting discomfort and failure as opportunities to learn.
• Fairness over Popularity:
  • You approach decisions with a scientist’s mindset, challenging your assumptions and remaining objective. You consider long-term impact rather than relying on short-term gains, proactively seek others’ perspectives, and manage emotions in decision-making.

Benefits

• Multiple medical insurance plans to choose from.
• Dental, vision life and disability insurance.
• Employee Emergency Fund.
• Company equity (stock options).
• Open PTO policy.
• 401K plan with company match.
• Hybrid/flexible work environment.
