Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to serve as a technical owner on a client platform, contributing across the full software lifecycle from design and development to production support. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in Rails and PostgreSQL, strong experience integrating third-party APIs under real-world constraints (rate limits, quotas, uptime SLAs), and the ability to design resilient, production-grade systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating with significant autonomy, communicating clearly with both technical and business stakeholders, and maintaining high engineering discipline over a sustained engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain features end-to-end within a Ruby on Rails application, from requirements through deployment and support.
• Design and implement resilient API client patterns, retries, exponential backoff, circuit breaking, and idempotent request handling.
• Integrate with third-party REST APIs, including those with rate limits, usage quotas, or uptime constraints.
• Work with AWS services at an application-integration level, including RDS and Secrets Manager.
• Design and support event-driven / webhook-based architectures.
• Participate in CI/CD pipeline workflows and manage code promotion across different environments.
• Maintain strong git hygiene, including clean commit practices and disciplined code review participation.
• Troubleshoot, triage, and resolve production issues as part of ongoing platform support.

Qualifications

• 5–6 years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails, including end-to-end design and development of production applications.
• Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL, schema design, data modeling, and query performance tuning.
• Proven experience integrating third-party REST APIs, particularly those with rate limits, quotas, or uptime constraints.
• Demonstrated experience designing resilient API clients (retries, exponential backoff, circuit breaking, idempotency handling).
• Working knowledge of AWS at an application-integration level (RDS, Secrets Manager).
• Hands-on experience with background job processing frameworks (Sidekiq or ActiveJob).
• Experience with event-driven or webhook-based system architecture.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and structured environment promotion workflows.
• Strong command of Ruby and Rails fundamentals, idioms, and best practices.
• Disciplined git workflow habits and experience participating in code reviews.

Requirements

• Experience building rules-based or deterministic calculation/business-logic engines with configurable, versioned parameters.
• Experience integrating multiple third-party data APIs and reconciling or blending their outputs.
• Domain exposure to logistics, freight, transportation, or supply-chain systems.
• Experience transitioning from a build team into a long-term support/maintenance role on the same product.
• Exposure to timezone-sensitive data handling in distributed or webhook-based systems.
• Experience with ticketing and prioritization systems (Jira or similar).
• Experience with incident triage and root cause analysis.
• Experience maintaining technical documentation and knowledge bases.
• Experience mentoring junior or mid-level engineers.
