Role Description

Nexaminds is looking for a Senior Backend Java Developer to join our engineering team. In this role, you'll play a critical part in delivering high-impact backend services that enable a large-scale AWS migration. You'll own complex migration workstreams, modernize backend systems, drive architecture decisions, validate production readiness, and collaborate closely with SRE teams to ensure safe, reliable, and successful service cutovers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer or Software Engineer.
• Extensive experience designing and developing backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven experience leading large-scale backend migrations, system modernizations, or complex refactoring initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architecture, REST APIs, and backend service design.
• Experience working with AWS environments and cloud migration projects.
• Strong understanding of MySQL, DynamoDB, and relational database migration strategies.
• Experience validating application performance, scalability, and production readiness before deployment.
• Hands-on experience creating runbooks, rollback strategies, monitoring plans, and operational documentation.
• Experience collaborating closely with SRE, DevOps, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, automated testing, and Agile development practices.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.

Requirements

• Experience with Postgres migrations, logical replication, and database driver upgrades.
• Experience migrating services from MySQL to DynamoDB or similar datastore modernization projects.
• Knowledge of deterministic builds, Maven versioning, dependency management, and JDK upgrades.
• Experience reducing technical debt through service consolidation and deprecation strategies.
• Familiarity with GraphQL migrations or REST API modernization initiatives.
• Experience supporting canary deployments, production cutovers, and rollback planning.
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native deployment practices.

Job Duties

• Lead critical backend migration workstreams from planning through successful production cutover.
• Design migration strategies that minimize risk and prevent service inconsistencies during cloud migrations.
• Develop and execute validation plans, including functional, performance, and integration testing.
• Build operational readiness documentation, including runbooks, monitoring expectations, rollback plans, and cutover procedures.
• Modernize backend services to improve migration readiness and reduce technical debt.
• Drive backend architecture decisions across service dependencies to support scalable AWS migration efforts.
• Partner closely with SRE teams during canary deployments, production cutovers, and post-deployment stabilization.
• Optimize backend services by identifying opportunities to retire legacy systems instead of migrating them.
• Support datastore modernization initiatives, including MySQL, DynamoDB, and Postgres migration activities.
• Improve build pipelines, dependency management, security standards, and engineering best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and mentoring across engineering teams.
• Ensure backend services meet reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence standards.
