[Hiring] Senior Azure Platform Engineer @Accuity

YDay - Accuity is hiring a remote Senior Azure Platform Engineer. 💸 Salary: unspecified 📍Location: USA

Role Description

The Senior Azure Platform Engineer serves as Accuity's internal operational owner for Azure, with accountability for engineering, operating, and improving the Azure application, data, and supporting platform services that Accuity's products depend on. Reporting to the Vice President, Data Architecture, this is a deep, hands-on engineering role at the center of Accuity's cloud environment.

The role is accountable for how those services behave in production, including availability, resilience, performance, security, and cost. It coordinates incident response and restoration, leads root cause analysis and durable remediation for Azure platform incidents, maintains and tests disaster recovery and failover procedures, and keeps provisioned capacity matched to actual workload as systems change.

The Senior Azure Platform Engineer performs hands-on engineering while coordinating with Accuity's managed service provider for monitoring, administration, incident response, specialized engineering, and architecture support. Ownership includes ensuring that work is completed effectively whether it is performed directly, collaboratively with internal teams, or through the managed service provider.

The Senior Azure Platform Engineer is the primary technical contributor to Accuity's Azure engineering standards, which are owned by Data Architecture leadership and applied consistently across the environment. The role also leads Accuity's move toward repeatable, code-defined provisioning and builds the documentation and automation needed for the environment to be operated, supported, and extended by more than one engineer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience, technical training, or a combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) strongly preferred; Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) or equivalent architecture experience preferred.
  • 7+ years of hands-on software or cloud engineering experience, including production ownership of Azure services.
  • Deep hands-on experience administering Azure subscriptions, resource groups, Azure Policy, RBAC, privileged access, managed identities, tagging, and resource governance.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, alerting, dashboards, and operational automation.
  • Experience with Azure networking and security controls, including virtual networks, private endpoints, DNS, network security groups, and private connectivity.
  • Deep experience with Azure application services, including Azure Functions, APIs, integration services, and storage.
  • Experience with Azure database platforms such as SQL Managed Instance, including performance tuning under concurrency and contention.
  • Experience with health data standards and services such as FHIR and HL7 preferred.
  • Experience with disaster recovery design, failover testing, and production incident response.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code and automated provisioning using Terraform, Bicep, or an equivalent approach, including source control, peer review, deployment pipelines, and configuration-drift management.
  • Experience managing cloud cost and capacity in a production environment, including budgets, anomaly investigation, forecasting, right-sizing, and commitment utilization.
  • Experience in a regulated or security-sensitive environment, healthcare preferred.

Requirements

  • Serve as Accuity's internal operational owner for Azure and maintain visibility into subscriptions, resources, service ownership, critical dependencies, environments, and lifecycle status.
  • Coordinate the delivery and administration of Azure resources across their lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, production change, monitoring, optimization, recovery, and retirement.
  • Coordinate the managed service provider's operational work, including incidents, service requests, maintenance, cost optimization, technical escalation, and architecture support.
  • Review and validate managed service provider recommendations and deliverables, and ensure configuration information, documentation, and runbooks remain accessible to Accuity.
  • Design, build, and maintain Accuity’s Azure application and data services, including Azure Functions, APIs, integration and messaging services, and supporting components.
  • Own the engineering of Accuity’s health data and FHIR services, including ingestion, transformation, and integration with clinical and revenue cycle applications.
  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party clinical data platforms and interface partners.
  • Develop automation and tooling that reduces manual operation of the Azure environment.
  • Support application and data teams with Azure service design, implementation patterns, and troubleshooting.
  • Own availability, performance, and resilience for the Azure services in scope, and be accountable for how they behave in production.
  • Coordinate technical response and service restoration for Azure incidents affecting production applications, including stakeholder updates, Microsoft or vendor escalation, root cause analysis, post-incident review, and completion of durable corrective actions.
  • Maintain, document, and test disaster recovery and failover procedures for owned services, including participation in scheduled tabletop and recovery exercises.
  • Design and tune for real load characteristics, including concurrency, contention, throughput, and latency under peak conditions.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability so service health is visible and issues are detected before users report them.
  • Define and maintain availability, recovery, and performance targets for owned services in partnership with Data Architecture leadership.
  • Participate in scheduled incident escalation coverage, with the managed service provider providing continuous operational monitoring and first-line response.
  • Own cost visibility for the Azure services in scope, and identify and execute optimization opportunities.
  • Maintain Azure budgets, cost allocation and tagging, anomaly alerts, recurring spend reporting, forecasts, and a prioritized optimization backlog.
  • Right-size provisioned capacity as workloads change, including after migrations, cutovers, and service retirements, so the environment reflects actual demand rather than historical allocation.
  • Explain cost movement in owned services, including the drivers behind month-over-month variance.
  • Recommend service tier, SKU, and architecture changes that reduce cost without compromising reliability or compliance.
  • Support Azure consumption planning and forecasting in partnership with Data Architecture and Finance.
  • Serve as the primary technical contributor to Accuity’s Azure engineering standards, which are owned by Data Architecture leadership, covering resource provisioning, naming, tagging, environment separation, and lifecycle management.
  • Apply those standards consistently across the Azure estate, and bring existing resources into alignment over time.
  • Lead Accuity’s move toward repeatable, code-defined provisioning, evaluating infrastructure as code approaches and recommending how Accuity should deploy and manage cloud resources going forward.
  • Follow change management for production Azure resources, including documented approval, testing, and rollback planning.
  • Partner with Platform Management on shared deployment pipelines and environment capability rather than building parallel tooling.
  • Build and operate Azure services in accordance with HIPAA, HITRUST, and PHI protection requirements.
  • Apply least privilege to Azure resource access, identities, and service principals, and support periodic access reviews.
  • Implement encryption, network isolation, private connectivity, and auditing appropriate to the data handled.
  • Support audit readiness by producing accurate evidence of configuration, access, and controls for owned services.
  • Document architecture, configuration, dependencies, runbooks, and recovery procedures for owned services to a standard that allows another engineer to operate and support them.
  • Eliminate undocumented manual steps by automating them or writing them down.
  • Cross-train engineers and share operational knowledge so no service depends on the availability of one person.
  • Keep documentation current as the environment changes rather than reconstructing it after the fact.
  • Partner with Data Architecture on the modernization of Accuity’s data platform, including migration sequencing, dependencies, and application impact.
  • Work with Engineering, Data Science and AI, Platform Management, and Enterprise IT on shared services, interfaces, and infrastructure.
  • Support Microsoft and vendor technical escalations for Azure services in coordination with technology leadership.
  • Monitor managed service provider responsiveness, remediation commitments, knowledge transfer, and service quality, and escalate concerns to technology leadership.
  • Ensure the managed service provider follows Accuity's architecture, security, change-management, documentation, and approval requirements.
  • Communicate technical risk, options, and tradeoffs clearly, including where a recommendation carries cost, reliability, or compliance consequences.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support technology operations and organizational goals.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Flexible work hours and remote work options.
  • Professional development opportunities.
