Role Description

Join a high-impact, fully remote team modernizing and securing mission-critical enterprise APIs. As a Senior API Engineer, you'll drive security remediation, modernization, and robust production delivery across multiple Java-based repositories. Collaborate with top-tier professionals to implement advanced authentication, authorization, and logging solutions—delivering real business value and building expertise in the latest backend technologies.

Responsibilities

• Assess and analyze existing Java repositories and Jira stories to plan modernization and security improvements
• Develop, upgrade, and secure REST APIs, implementing OAuth 2.0, JWT roles, scopes, and claims
• Sequentially modernize applications: Gradle 8.x → Spring Boot 3.5.x → Java 21 → Gradle 9.x
• Resolve compatibility issues involving frameworks, libraries, and dependencies
• Update OpenAPI 3 specifications and deprecate legacy API endpoints for best-in-class API management
• Implement application logging and integrate with SIEM platforms for enterprise-grade security monitoring
• Design, develop, and maintain robust automated unit, integration, and API security tests to ensure code quality
• Troubleshoot and resolve defects during testing and deployment validation
• Participate in daily standups, document technical implementation, and support deployment and hypercare activities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years' experience in enterprise API/backend engineering
• Advanced skills with Java 17/21, Spring Boot 3.x, and Gradle, including major-version upgrades and dependency remediation
• Proven expertise in Spring Security, OAuth 2.0, JWT scopes, roles, and claims, and secure REST API development
• Strong proficiency with OpenAPI 3/Swagger and automated unit, integration, and API security testing
• Experience with Git-based source control and CI/CD pipelines
• Ability to solve complex application, dependency, and integration challenges

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Okta or similar enterprise Identity Providers, including API configuration across QA and production
• Familiarity with SIEM integration, structured security-event logging, and enterprise logging SDKs
• Exposure to Harness, Anypoint/API gateways, Flyway, JaCoCo, DNS/load-balancer coordination, and production deployments
