Role Description

We are looking for a Senior WordPress Developer to join the team part-time (initially). You will take ownership of the architecture, development, and optimisation of our WordPress-powered platforms, playing a central role in how our clients and partners experience our integrated ecosystem.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional WordPress development experience.
• Strong AWS skills, ideally certified or willing to write the exams.
• Deep expertise in custom theme development (PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/ES6+).
• Strong experience building custom plugins from the ground up.
• Proven experience with the WordPress REST API and headless architectures (e.g. Next.js, Nuxt, or similar front-end frameworks consuming WordPress as a CMS).
• Solid Gutenberg/block editor development experience, including custom block creation with React.
• Demonstrable knowledge of WordPress security hardening, vulnerability management, and compliance best practices.
• Strong performance optimisation skills — server-side and front-end.
• Proficiency with version control (Git) and modern development workflows (CI/CD pipelines, staging environments).

Requirements

• Experience integrating WordPress with media asset management (MAM/DAM) systems or video streaming platforms (e.g. Brightcove, JW Player, Mux).
• Familiarity with multisite WordPress installations.
• Exposure to GraphQL / WPGraphQL.
• Experience with Dockerised WordPress environments.
• Knowledge of digital rights management (DRM) or content licensing workflows.

Package & Remuneration

• R300 to R350 per hour.
• 20 to 25 hours per week initially.
