[Hiring] Fullstack Engineer @Proto

Role Description

Proto is hiring a full stack engineer to build and maintain the software and infrastructure behind our AI agent platform – the products that put AI agents in the hands of governments, regulators, and businesses across emerging markets. You will own features from first idea to production, learn our SaaS products inside out, and use AI tools every day to move faster and ship better. You will work in a lean, remote-first team where good ideas become live code in days, not quarters.

Location: Pakistan

What you will do

• Turn complex AI capability into products that people actually use.
• Build and develop the applications, servers, services, and databases that form the foundation of our platform.
• Develop a complete understanding of our SaaS products and take part in end-to-end product development.
• Use AI coding assistants and agentic tools daily to design, write, test, debug, and review code – and share what works with the team.
• Proactively improve the architecture and pay down technical debt.
• Keep the codebase healthy – maintainable, scalable, secure, and bug-free – and hold quality to the highest standard, including for code generated by AI.
• Collaborate with our product, QA, and client support teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' professional experience with Python and TypeScript development.
• A proven habit of using AI tools – coding assistants, agents, automated testing, and review – to raise your speed and output, while checking everything they produce.
• Good judgement in choosing the right tool for each task, rather than building everything in-house.

Requirements

• Backend:
  • Strong Python 3 and FastAPI skills, including multi-threading, asyncio, and performance optimisation.
  • Strong relational database skills: writing SQL queries or using an ORM.
  • Experience with Docker and Docker Compose.
  • Experience with AWS and managing deployments.
  • Experience with micro-services and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Celery and RabbitMQ.
• Frontend:
  • Sound knowledge of React and TypeScript.
  • Understanding of modern web principles and responsive web design.
  • Ability to troubleshoot performance issues using developer tools.

Nice to have

• Background in natural language processing or computational linguistics.
• Previous experience at a SaaS or AI company.
• Fluency in multiple languages.
• Experience integrating LLMs or AI agents (APIs, prompt design, retrieval).
• Familiarity with messaging channels such as WhatsApp, SMS, voice, or web chat.
