[Hiring] Backend Engineer @Kyndryl

2d ago - Kyndryl is hiring a remote Backend Engineer. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: USA

Role Description

Backend Engineering & Delivery

  • Architect, build, and scale backend services and APIs using C#, .NET Core, and ASP.NET Core, integrating with legacy systems, third-party APIs, and existing data models.
  • Apply clean architecture, SOLID principles, dependency injection, and repository/service patterns to keep systems maintainable, testable, and scalable.

Agentic AI Development Practices

  • Apply agentic AI development practices using AI coding agents (such as GitHub Copilot) throughout the development lifecycle to accelerate backend design, coding, testing, and code review.
  • Implement and maintain agentic development workflows and CI/CD processes, including automated pipelines that leverage AI agents for code review, test generation, and deployment validation.
  • Design and maintain backend APIs and services that reliably support agentic and LLM-powered experiences, including streaming responses, robust error handling, and integration with multi-agent orchestration frameworks.
  • Collaborate with frontend and AI engineering teams to ensure backend systems integrate cleanly with agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, and real-time data needs.

Customer Engagement & Solution Integrity

  • Partner directly with subject matter experts to understand business challenges, helping to translate complex requirements into high-quality, fit-for-purpose technical architectures.
  • Take part in end-to-end technical delivery from scoping and prototyping to production deployment, prioritizing sustainable, long-term outcomes over temporary fixes.
  • Bridge engineering rigor with business value, communicating technical trade-offs and solution impact confidently to both technical teams and executive stakeholders.

Field Intelligence & Platform Contribution

  • Systematically capture deployment learnings, document best practices, and share insights to continuously enhance Kyndryl's core AI platforms and frameworks.
  • Collaborate daily with engineering leads to improve deployment pipelines and cultivate an open, knowledge-sharing engineering culture.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline health for backend build and release processes in Azure DevOps, including branching strategies, environment configuration, and deployment troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, and ASP.NET Core (modern versions, not primarily legacy .NET Framework).
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents and agentic development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as a core part of the software development lifecycle, including implementing and maintaining agentic workflows within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience designing, building, and integrating REST APIs, including authentication/authorization, error handling, versioning, and JSON-based communication with third-party and legacy systems.
  • Practical SQL Server experience, including query optimization, stored procedures where appropriate, Entity Framework/Core, and data modeling - including working with existing complex data models.
  • Azure experience, particularly Azure App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Key Vault, Storage, Application Insights, and Azure SQL, along with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies, and environment configuration.
  • Experience working on large, enterprise-scale applications with multiple integrations across business domains, including legacy systems and outdated APIs.
  • Understanding of microservices and distributed systems, including messaging/event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, retries, and resiliency.
  • Applies modern architecture and design patterns - SOLID principles, dependency injection, repository/service patterns, and clean architecture - to keep codebases maintainable and scalable.
  • Treats automated testing (unit, integration, and mocking) as a core part of development, not something owned solely by QA.
  • Zero trust security mindset, including secure API development, secrets management, authentication/authorization, and avoiding common vulnerabilities (OWASP).
  • Comfortable diagnosing production issues - from logs and performance bottlenecks to failed deployments and API/database problems - using logging, monitoring, and telemetry tools (such as Application Insights).
  • Strong code quality mindset, including participating in code reviews, submitting frequent pull requests, refactoring, managing technical debt, and following team coding standards.
  • Ability to understand existing systems holistically and work confidently within a large complex enterprise codebase including integrating with and modernizing legacy systems without assuming everything needs to be rewritten.
  • Degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics, Data Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical work experience).

Requirements

  • Experience with backend testing frameworks (such as xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest) and mocking libraries (such as Moq).
  • Experience using AI agent tools for automated code review, test generation, or refactoring (such as Copilot Workspace, Cursor, or similar agentic coding assistants).
  • Experience with event-driven/messaging platforms (such as Azure Service Bus, Kafka, or RabbitMQ) and asynchronous processing patterns.
  • T-shaped technical profile with deep expertise in backend engineering combined with broad understanding of agentic AI development practices and enterprise consulting.
  • Active technical contributions or feedback provided to core AI platforms, open-source repositories, or internal frameworks.
  • Experience modernizing or incrementally improving existing backend systems.
  • Active professional certifications in backend frameworks, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), or AI-assisted development pathways.
  • Advanced degree (Master's or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related technical discipline.

Benefits

  • State-of-the-art resources and Fortune 100 clients.
  • Employee learning programs providing access to industry certifications, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Skillsoft, and more.
  • Company-wide volunteering and giving platform allowing donations, fundraisers, and volunteering opportunities with over 2 million non-profit organizations.
  • Investment in employee success and well-being.
