Role Description
This role involves leading a team of dedicated engineers as a Software Engineering Manager at Deputy. Your mission is to build a world-class engineering team while driving innovation and adapting to change.
- Direct a team of engineers of varied experience levels.
- Develop an intimate understanding of the underlying technical architecture.
- Co-create the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap planning for your team.
- Guide the team in building innovative, elegant solutions while balancing trade-offs.
- Drive the scalability and reliability of your squad's offerings.
- Mentor and develop software engineers to help them perform at their best.
- Lead the recruiting of new engineers to build a sustainable and diverse team.
- Own the Engineering Team Engagement score and foster a learning-oriented community.
- Communicate openly and keep the team informed of business vision and goals.
- Remove single points of failure by cross-skilling staff and making strategic resourcing decisions.
- Accountable for 2-3 OKRs aligned to company goals.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of software engineering management experience.
- Technical acumen with the ability to converse deeply with engineers and technical executives.
- Experience in a fast-growing scale-up environment, preferably in a multi-tenant SaaS organization.
- Growth mindset and a passion for technology.
- High agency mindset, capable of navigating challenges to achieve goals.
Requirements
- Experience building distributed web-based cloud-native applications and services.
- Experience with cloud computing/architecture, particularly AWS with multi-region, multi-tenant experience.
- Experience in deploying highly scalable systems using various techniques and design patterns.
- Experience in operations of large multi-tenant storage deployments (MySQL & various No-SQL).
- Familiarity with system architecture patterns like SOA, microservices, and event-driven architecture (EDA).
- Experience with key cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes (EKS), containerization, and Kafka.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as PHP, Golang, Terraform, and Python.
