A leading organisation is recruiting for this role.

Our client is a South African fresh produce exporter and importer specialising in grapes, citrus and other fruit into Asian and Russian markets. Our client is seeking an experienced Trading Manager to lead sales and trading activity, manage the grower supply base and customer relationships, and own the end-to-end trading cycle from procurement through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead sales and trading programmes into Asian and Russian markets; liaise with the Russian office on supermarket supply requirements.
• Build, maintain and grow relationships with South African growers, packhouses and suppliers; secure seasonal supply of grapes, citrus and other fruit for export.
• Manage and grow customer and distributor relationships; negotiate commercial terms including pricing, volumes and payment terms.
• Own fruit quality and continuity of supply from source to customer delivery; visit the supply base as required to protect quality and supply risk.
• Coordinate export logistics, cold chain, documentation and phytosanitary requirements from procurement through shipment and delivery.
• Lead import and cross-trade programmes from South America where required.
• Monitor shipment profitability, margins and commercial risk; maintain accurate records of contracts, shipments and programmes.
• Drive forecasting, seasonal planning and commercial reporting to support trading results.

Qualifications

• 3 to 10 years' experience in fresh fruit export, trading, or commercial supply roles; grapes and citrus experience strongly preferred.
• Proven experience managing both a supply base (growers, packhouses) and a customer base (buyers, distributors).
• Understanding of fresh fruit quality standards, seasonality, export pack specifications and export logistics.
• Practical knowledge of trading finance: costing, margins, payment terms and credit considerations.
• Experience dealing with international buyers; exposure to Asian and/or Russian markets is advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel occasionally within South Africa and limited international travel.
• Cold chain and shipping partner coordination.

Preferred

• Degree in Commerce, Agriculture, Horticulture, Supply Chain or International Trade.
