Role Description

The Strategic Account Manager, Japan (West) is responsible for Abcam’s business in Japan (West). They are expected to grow revenue and awareness of Abcam’s broad product range, focusing on direct customer engagement in collaboration with Japanese Sub-Dealers, with a secondary focus on KOL engagement. This position reports to the Commercial General Manager, JAPAC, and is part of the JAPAN Marketing & Sales Team, with team members located across the JAPAN and JAPAC region. This role will be fully remote, based in the West of Japan, ideally in Kyoto or Osaka.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop Deep Client Relationships: Establish trusted, long-term relationships with senior decision-makers in Biotech/Pharma customers to ensure Abcam is their trusted partner.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop Strategic Account strategies that include revenue growth, project pipelines, and stakeholder maps to deliver unambiguous share gain.
  • Business Growth: Independently and in collaboration with Japanese Sub-Dealer Sales teams, proactively identify, develop, and close new business opportunities.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Japan Marketing & Sales team, Customer Support teams, Finance, Supply Chain & Digital to deliver solutions to customers' pain points.
  • Pipeline Management & Reporting: Use of CRM to plan and manage sales activities, managing pipeline, qualifying leads and managing funnel with regular management reporting.

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Biology or related fields.
  • More than five years of experience in solution science-based selling in the Life Science market in Pharma and Biotech in the territory.
  • Strong knowledge of the Japanese market dynamics, business regulations, and Japanese Sub Dealer networks to drive growing revenue and competitive differentiation.
  • Excellent in managing customer interface and relationship, both at the scientific end-user level, decision-making level, and procurement levels.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal, relationship building and presentation skills in English and Japanese.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel 25% of the time across Japan and occasionally within the JAPAC region.
