Role Description

The Area Sales Manager (ASM) plays a critical leadership role in driving commercial performance across assigned territories in Italy. The ASM leads and develops a team of Key Account Managers, ensuring effective execution of commercial strategy, strong account planning, and achievement of performance targets. Acting as a key link between the field and cross-functional teams, the ASM contributes to shaping strategy based on market insights and ensures alignment across Commercial, Medical, and Marketing functions. The Area Sales Manager (ASM) reports to the Area Sales Lead, Italy.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Key Account Managers
  • Drive performance management, talent development, and succession planning
  • Conduct regular performance reviews in partnership with the Commercial Lead
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous development
• Commercial Execution & Performance
  • Deliver against sales, volume, and market share targets
  • Implement and monitor territory and account planning processes
  • Track and drive performance against agreed KPIs and targets
  • Ensure accurate forecasting in collaboration with the Commercial Lead
• Strategic & Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Translate brand strategy into operational execution in the field
  • Partner closely with Medical, Marketing, and Country Leadership to ensure alignment
  • Provide market insights, customer feedback, and competitive intelligence
• Operational Excellence
  • Ensure effective use of CRM systems to drive data quality, KPIs, and forecasting accuracy
  • Monitor performance metrics and ensure regular reporting to leadership
  • Support implementation of incentive compensation plans and field metrics
• Customer Engagement & Field Excellence
  • Drive high-quality HCP engagement through strong account planning and execution
  • Support development of tailored value propositions based on customer needs
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen customer relationships and market positioning
• Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure full compliance with local regulations, company policies, and ethical standards
  • Promote adherence to promotional and pharmacovigilance requirements
  • Maintain high standards in all customer interactions and activities

Qualifications

• Proven experience in pharmaceutical sales, including leadership experience
• Strong track record of delivering commercial results
• Experience managing and developing high-performing teams
• Fluency in Italian and English
• Proficient in CRM systems (e.g., Veeva) and MS Office tools
• Willingness to travel extensively within Italy

Benefits

• Base pay range: €97,800 — €132,300 EUR
• Eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g. bonus or sales incentive)
