Role Description

The Boston Herald is looking for a Sales Representative to join our sales team. Sales Representatives maintain existing business accounts, grow revenue and successfully land new business opportunities.

  • Establish and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers within the business community
  • Proactively anticipate client needs
  • Communicate our value proposition to clients and prospects
  • Comfortable communicating in a presentation setting

What you will do:

  • Work independently and make sound business decisions related to achieving revenue goals
  • Communicate with your manager daily to discuss strategy, forecasting, and other key issues
  • Strategically prospect for new accounts
  • Conduct needs assessments to determine customer needs
  • Generate ideas and proposals, present recommendations, close the sale, and set client expectations
  • Analyze clients’ advertising business objectives to prepare creative solutions
  • Own the sales and retention cycle for each campaign
  • Meet with individual clients at appropriate frequencies to review schedules, budgets, and create new strategies
  • Prepare and develop sales recommendations using resources and relevant data
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of product features and benefits
  • Meet deadlines, create accurate advertising orders, and submit client contracts
  • Develop prospective leads using various sources and attend local business events for networking
  • Analyze and interpret key sales metrics and develop strategies to reach sales success

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Some sales work experience required (retail, business to business, etc.)
  • One year of outside sales experience preferred
  • Media sales experience is helpful
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google, and Gmail
  • Detail orientation, time management, and organization skills are required

Requirements

  • Must be comfortable with the prospect of upselling existing customers
  • Must be comfortable with prospecting new customers and presenting advertising campaign solutions
  • Must be comfortable with using and learning Facebook, SEO, SEM, and web advertising tools
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
  • This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, training sessions, and/or in-person meetings
