[Hiring] Research Associate @Canadian Climate Institute

Role Description

Reporting to the Principal Economist and Head of 440 Megatonnes, the Research Associate will support the 440 Team in identifying research to improve climate change mitigation policy in Canada and executing research projects, including:

• Conducting literature reviews
• Providing core data synthesis and analysis
• Writing content for Institute publications
• Collaborating with other teams
• Contributing to research communications strategies
• Supporting stakeholder engagement

The Research Associate will join the 440 team at the Institute. Our research explores policies that can help Canada achieve its greenhouse gas emissions reductions milestones on the way to achieving net zero by 2050. We assess trade-offs of alternative policy options in reducing emissions, including:

• Efficacy
• Cost-effectiveness
• Distributional implications

We consider all sectors of the economy and all regions of the country and provide policy advice rooted in analysis and evidence.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Economics, Environmental, Sustainability or Climate Change Studies, Public Policy, Resource Management or relevant field if combined with relevant policy research experience
• Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience
• Strong quantitative research skills, including econometric analysis and coding in python and R
• Strong project management skills, including working with external consultants and managing project timelines
• Strong understanding of current climate policies (especially provincial and federal) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
• Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in climate change, energy and resource policy
• Demonstrated experience with data gathering, analysis, and literature reviews
• Strong research and writing skills
• Self-directed and able to work independently
• Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada to be considered
• Professional fluency in English is required; French fluency considered a significant asset
• Public speaking experience an asset
