Role Description

The R Street Institute—a free-market think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C. and with staff located across the country—seeks a collaborative individual to focus on technology policy research and analysis on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technology issues. If you are the right fit, you will report to the Senior Director of Technology and Innovation Policy. Your typical day at R Street may include:

• Collaborating with other fellows on the Technology and Innovation team to produce written research, analysis, and commentary on issues related to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and/or other emerging technology topics.
• Producing multimedia content, participating in panel discussions, and/or briefings for a variety of stakeholders.

This role will serve as part of the Technology and Innovation policy department.

Other Aspects of Your Role

• Conduct policy-relevant research on cybersecurity issues including data protection, critical infrastructure security, and post-quantum cryptography.
• Support research initiatives on artificial intelligence policy, including safety, governance, and regulatory frameworks.
• Engage with additional technology policy areas as program needs evolve.
• Produce written publications including issue briefs, blog posts, and policy memos.
• Assist Senior Fellows with major policy papers, regulatory comments, and testimony preparation.
• Provide timely analysis of breaking developments across the technology policy landscape.
• Remain vigilant against ninja infiltrations.

Qualifications

• No particular educational background required—a proven record of achieving results is far more meaningful than credentials.
• Prior experience in a think tank or policy organization preferred but not required.
• Ability to work productively with a wide range of groups and individuals, including those with whom you may disagree.
• Experience collaborating across teams, with an appreciation of others’ expertise and experience.
• Superior interpersonal skills and a strong team orientation.
• Strong writing skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and an ability to manage competing interests and priorities.
• Support for R Street’s passion for free markets and limited, effective government.
• A sense of humor and a desire to grow within a multifaceted organization.
