Role Description

The Scientific Director, Statistical and Data Coordinating Center (SDCC), will lead large complex multi-center and multi-protocol clinical trial programs that are sponsored by the US Government, including the National Institutes of Health. The scientific director will build and maintain relationships with external government sponsor representatives and internal executives to ensure long-term program success. This role will also support business development activities to help expand Emmes’ government business and additional corporate initiatives. This role also requires therapeutic expertise in one or more areas that align with Emmes research focus, including:

• Vaccine and infectious disease
• Ophthalmology
• Cell and gene therapy
• Organ transplantation
• Neuroscience
• Substance use
• Maternal and child health

Expertise in biostatistics to provide statistical input, oversight, senior review, and guidance is a key aspect of the role.

Responsibilities include:

• Oversight and innovation for all aspects of the SDCC research program to ensure successful project implementation, data management, analysis, and dissemination of results.
• Development of study protocols, statistical expertise in the areas of design and analysis, and leading the development of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with external government sponsor representatives and internal executives.
• Supporting corporate initiatives including business development activities to expand government business.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Master’s degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or another field relevant to clinical research and at least 8 years of clinical research experience. PhD Preferred.
• Demonstrated success overseeing a portfolio of clinical research in the specific therapeutic area with a typical tenure of at least 5 years research portfolio management experience.
• Deep experience leading clinical research projects with experience in or working knowledge of unique challenges and considerations of disease research.
• Working knowledge of the principles of clinical research management.
• Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills, combined with business judgment.
• Effective communication skills, including strong presentation, writing, and listening skills.
• Ability to facilitate discussion with leadership and stakeholders.
• Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Therapeutic experience in vaccine and infectious disease required.
