Role Description

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Competitive Analysis Research Intern to support strategic growth and market intelligence projects. This role is ideal for an undergraduate student interested in gaining hands-on experience with competitive landscape mapping, labor market-driven training trends, and product positioning in the non-traditional educational and workforce development sectors. The intern will play a key role in analyzing Per Scholas's competitive edge in emerging technical fields and evaluating the market relevance of our earned revenue products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Skilled Trades Market Research: Conduct a deep-dive analysis into the competitive landscape for infrastructure talent development within specific industries (e.g., Data Centers, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor) both on a national level and within specific geographic areas. Identify major direct training competitors and map where employers are currently hiring talent for these roles.
  • Competitive Positioning: Provide recommendations on how Per Scholas should position its training offerings to remain competitive against alternative providers in the skilled trades and infrastructure sectors to both learners and employers.
  • Pricing Analysis: Research and compare pricing models for earned revenue products, including customized training and upskilling courses. Analyze how Per Scholas's value proposition compares to market alternatives.
  • Primary & Desktop Research: Utilize a combination of AI-powered secondary research (e.g., desktop) and primary research methods, including "secret shopping," to gather intelligence on competitor enrollment processes, pricing, and curriculum delivery.
  • Data Synthesis: Apply strong analytical skills and AI prompting techniques to synthesize findings into "so what?" insights that drive strategic organizational decisions.
  • Communication & Reporting: Prepare clear and concise written reports and verbal presentations to share research findings with leadership.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend project meetings and contribute to discussions regarding market strategy and product development.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student with a strong interest in research, market analysis, or business strategy; alternative backgrounds eligible when the required skills have been obtained without a degree.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Proficiency in research methodologies and data analysis.
  • Ability to utilize AI prompting to enhance research efficiency and synthesis.
  • A strong bias toward learning and inquiry, with an ability to identify the "so what?" in complex data.
  • Excitement to learn about and contribute to the field of workforce development.

Benefits

  • Holidays & PTO: Full-Time Per Scholas team members enjoy over 40 days of paid time off each year through a mix of holidays, vacation, and sick/personal time. All employees are eligible for Holiday pay upon hire (a total of 22 holidays annually, including a week off for Independence Day and a week before the New Year).
  • Comprehensive Medical Coverage: Benefit eligible employees can choose from multiple medical plans through Cigna or Kaiser Permanente (where available), with options to fit your needs.
  • Dental and Vision Insurance: Eligible employees can select from two dental plan options and a vision plan.
  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with a current 100% employer match on contributions up to 6%, eligible employees are offered entry and full vesting after 90 days with the company.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Free, confidential, 24/7 access to counseling, legal support, and financial resources for employees and their household members.
  • Parental Leave: Eligible employees are offered up to 6 weeks of 100% paid parental leave to support employees as they welcome a new child and bond with their family.
  • Additional Benefits & Perks: Eligible employees have access to employer-paid life and AD&D Insurance, as well as employer-paid short-term disability coverage, with the option to elect additional life coverage and long-term disability insurance.
