Role Description

Stream Tech Leads - SDET are the quality and automation point person for their stream, providing oversight and hands-on training on quality and automation standards across several Product Delivery Teams. You have a proven track record of excellence in test automation and quality engineering, and you stay current with the latest testing tools, frameworks, and industry practices. You know the dependencies between underlying systems and can identify and resolve issues in test coverage, tooling, and API interfaces. In addition to designing and implementing complex automation solutions, you set testing strategy, provide estimates, and create tasks to implement quality initiatives within the stream. You have high ownership of quality issues that arise in production and actively drive root cause analysis and timely resolution. You are involved in test architecture decisions, perform code and test plan reviews, promote quality and automation standards, SOPs, and push for new testing tools and technology where needed.

• Spearhead the design, development, and rollout of new automation frameworks, test tooling, and quality processes across the stream
• Collaborate, groom, and provide technical guidance to Product Management and Engineering on quality and testability requirements
• Translate business requirements into test strategies, test plans, and automated test coverage aligned with the product roadmap
• Technical lead during planning to raise awareness, provide implementation guidance, and testing/automation estimates
• Set and guide the quality and automation technical direction within and across teams in the stream
• Lead in test architecture discussions and setting technical direction for automation frameworks
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and hands-on training to SDETs across teams in the stream on quality and automation standards
• Promote, recommend, and enforce automation coding standards, testing best practices, and SOPs
• Perform code and test plan reviews
• Research and implement new testing tools, frameworks, and technologies where appropriate
• Identify and develop strategies to resolve test debt and improve automation coverage across the stream
• Triage, analyze, and improve quality and test reliability across teams in production and pre-production environments
• Takes operational responsibility in resolving quality-related production issues
• Coordinate with business stakeholders and escalate quality risks as needed
• Provide ongoing process improvement recommendations and quality/efficiency metrics for the stream

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software quality engineering, test automation, or an SDET role
• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Management Information Systems, or equivalent technology experience
• Prior experience mentoring, training, or leading other SDETs or QA engineers is strongly preferred

Requirements

• Expert in test automation development using tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Cucumber, and TestNG, with strong programming skills in Java, Kotlin, and/or JavaScript
• Requires experience testing RESTful APIs, and familiarity with GraphQL is a plus
• A solid understanding of best practices for software quality, including functional, API, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing
• Ability to go beyond functional testing to build maintainable, scalable, and well-documented automation frameworks
• Experience working closely with engineering and product managers to define acceptance criteria and quality goals
• Ability to articulate and champion quality strategies related to scalability, maintainability, performance, security, and usability
• Outstanding problem-solving skills and a solid grasp of object-oriented programming
• Solid understanding of the full software development and testing life cycle, including CI/CD
• Strong communication skills, openness to collaborate, and enthusiasm to deliver as a part of a team
• A passion and drive for learning quality and testing technologies and recommending how to apply them pragmatically across teams
• An ability to lead technical discussions, mentor and train others, and the openness to listen and learn from your peers
• Experience with formal defect management processes and thorough root cause analysis
• Experience developing and maintaining automation tests and test cases that contribute to continuous delivery, covering edge cases and general reliability
• Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting complex, distributed software applications
