[Hiring] Lead Quality Engineer @Duetto Research

Role Description

Duetto's quality engineering function is being built from the ground up — and this is the role that defines what it becomes. As Lead Quality Engineer, you'll architect the test automation infrastructure, quality gate logic, and shared tooling that make high-quality testing the path of least resistance for every engineering team. You'll be operating in a system actively in transformation: a live monolith-to-microservices migration, a consolidation to Playwright, and a codebase where 50–70% of code is AI-generated at scale. If you're a senior quality engineer who leads with coaching rather than gatekeeping and thrives on building things that last, this is your role.

What You'll Be Doing

• Architect quality gate logic within GitHub Actions CI pipelines — defining coverage thresholds, mutation score gates, contract test enforcement, flaky test quarantine rules, and automated result reporting.
• Build DataDog quality dashboards tracking test health, coverage trends, and flaky test rates across the engineering organisation.
• Spearhead the migration from Selenium and Cypress to a consolidated Playwright framework — owning the shared configuration, CI sharding strategy, and page object library design.
• Drive PR pipeline test execution toward the P90 target of under 15 minutes through systematic flakiness reduction and pipeline optimisation.
• Design and implement Pact contract testing for service boundaries created during the monolith-to-microservices extraction.
• Manage the Pact broker, establishing consumer-driven contract testing as standard practice, and owning API contract testing across service boundaries.
• Design and maintain Testcontainers configurations for MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, LocalStack, and RabbitMQ to support reliable, reproducible integration test environments.
• Champion AI-augmented testing practices using Claude Code, CodeRabbit, and Augment — accelerating test generation, migration, and review at scale.
• Evaluate AI-generated test code for correctness, coverage gaps, and architectural fit within Duetto's evolving test strategy.
• Mentor developers on testing practices, automation patterns, and mutation testing using PIT (Java) and Stryker (JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Embed quality thinking across engineering teams in a hybrid guild model where developers own testing and you enable them to do it well.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in software quality engineering or test automation in a production SaaS environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Playwright for end-to-end test automation, including page object patterns and CI integration.
• Demonstrated experience defining and implementing quality gates within GitHub Actions pipelines.
• Contract testing experience — Pact strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in both Java and TypeScript/JavaScript for test implementation.
• Experience with Testcontainers or equivalent integration test infrastructure.
• A demonstrated ability to reduce test flakiness at scale in distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
• Active use of Claude Code or equivalent AI coding assistants for test generation, migration, and automation.
• Judgment to evaluate and validate AI-generated test output rather than ship it blindly.

Requirements

• Experience building or scaling a quality engineering function from scratch, including methodology definition and developer enablement programmes.
• Familiarity with observability tooling — DataDog, OpenTelemetry — in the context of test health monitoring.
• Experience with performance testing tools such as k6.
• Hospitality technology industry experience.
