Role Description

The 508 Compliance and Quality Assurance Specialist will independently evaluate and help assure the accessibility, completeness, consistency, and production quality of training products. Working with instructional designers, technical writers, graphic artists, eLearning and multimedia specialists, subject matter experts, instructors, and project leadership, this role will test electronic course materials and online learning products against applicable Section 508 and WCAG requirements and perform structured quality reviews throughout the course lifecycle. The specialist will document findings, verify corrections, maintain objective quality records, and support submission of accurate, accessible, macro-free, editable deliverables that meet client standards and are ready for Government acceptance and use.

Duties

  • Plan and conduct Section 508 and quality-assurance reviews for various instructional materials.
  • Test all final electronic course materials and online modules for conformance with Section 508 and WCAG criteria.
  • Evaluate Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, PDF, and digital-learning products using automated tools and manual inspection.
  • Review accessibility features such as headings, reading order, navigation, links, tables, and more.
  • Prepare and maintain the required Section 508 compliance checklist for each course materials package.
  • Perform independent quality reviews for completeness, internal consistency, formatting, and usability.
  • Apply approved acceptance criteria and quality checklists at defined review gates.
  • Maintain defect, review, and corrective-action records.
  • Collaborate with course teams to prevent accessibility and quality defects early in design and development.
  • Confirm that technical content has received the required subject matter expert validation.
  • Verify each course materials package includes all required components in the correct formats.
  • Review eLearning packages for accessibility and functional operation.
  • Support pilot and pre-delivery quality reviews by identifying problems and verifying corrections.
  • Track quality trends and recurring defects, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend improvements.
  • Provide objective quality-status information for Monthly Status Reports and final contract records.
  • Maintain controlled QA records and test artifacts.
  • Protect client information and Government-furnished materials by complying with project requirements.
  • Manage reviews for multiple concurrent course workstreams.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position and contract requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, quality assurance, instructional technology, or a closely related field is preferred; equivalent directly relevant professional experience may be considered.

Requirements

  • At least three years of professional experience performing Section 508 accessibility testing or related functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Section 508, WCAG Level A and AA success criteria, and accessible practices.
  • Experience testing and remediating Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and PDF files.
  • Proficiency with common accessibility tools and methods.
  • Experience conducting structured QA reviews and managing defects.
  • Ability to evaluate complex training products for completeness and adherence to requirements.
  • Strong analytical, written, verbal, collaboration, organization, and quality-control skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple reviews and firm deadlines in a remote environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security and system access approvals.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal agencies, particularly in public health or regulated programs.
  • Experience testing instructor-led course materials, eLearning, SCORM packages, and multimedia.
  • Experience with screen readers and accessibility testing across common browsers.
  • Familiarity with client Visual Identity requirements and instructional design methods.
  • Experience using defect-management and collaboration tools in a quality-management environment.
  • Accessibility or quality certification such as DHS Trusted Tester or comparable.
