Role Description

The Director of the PMO is a senior leader responsible for building, scaling, and operating a high‑performing Project Management Office within a cybersecurity and compliance professional services environment. This is a player‑coach role—balancing hands‑on engagement in complex or high‑risk engagements while developing and enabling a geographically dispersed team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators.

This role partners closely with Delivery Teams and Practice Leaders to:

  • Optimize utilization
  • Proactively manage delivery and client risk
  • Improve forecasting accuracy
  • Elevate overall client experience

The Director also serves as a key partner to Finance, ensuring disciplined execution of revenue recognition, forecasting, and financial governance.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in project or program management within professional services, consulting, or technical delivery environments.
  • 5+ years in people leadership, including managing and developing distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated experience operating as a player‑coach in fast‑moving, client‑facing environments.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity, compliance, risk, or regulated service delivery (e.g., SOC, ISO, PCI, HIPAA, offensive security, etc.).
  • Proven ability to partner cross‑functionally with Delivery, Practice Leaders, Finance, and Sales.
  • Solid understanding of professional services economics—utilization, margins, forecasting, and revenue recognition.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to operate confidently at both executive and client‑leadership levels.

Requirements

  • Partner tightly with Delivery Leaders and Practice Leaders to:
    • Plan and manage project capacity, utilization, and staffing alignment.
    • Surface delivery risks early and drive mitigation strategies.
    • Improve predictability of timelines, scope, and outcomes.
    • Ensure consistent adoption of project management standards, tools, and best practices across the organization.
    • Support onboarding of new services, methodologies, or delivery motions as the firm scales.
  • Client Management & Risk Oversight:
    • Partner tightly with Delivery and Sales Leader and serve as an escalation point for client‑facing delivery issues and at‑risk engagements.
    • Coach PMs on effective client communication, expectation setting, and issue resolution.
    • Enable strong governance practices including status reporting and executive readouts.
    • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction while maintaining contractual and commercial discipline.
  • Forecasting, Utilization & Business Insight:
    • Own delivery forecasting in partnership with Practice Leaders and Finance, including:
      • Resource demand and capacity forecasting
      • Project velocity and completion risk
      • Margin‑impacting delivery drivers
    • Provide leadership with clear, actionable insights on delivery health, utilization trends, and risk exposure.
  • PMO Leadership & Team Development:
    • Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing PMO team, including Project Managers and Project Coordinators across multiple geographies.
    • Act as a player‑coach, directly supporting complex, high‑visibility, or escalated client engagements as needed.
    • Establish clear role expectations, career paths, coaching rhythms, and performance standards for PMO team members.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and client‑centric delivery excellence.
  • Financial Partnership & Revenue Recognition:
    • Partner with Finance to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition, aligned with project progress, milestones, and contractual terms.
    • Support billing readiness, variance analysis, and resolution of revenue or margin discrepancies.
    • Reinforce strong controls, documentation, and audit‑ready practices within the PMO.
  • PMO Governance & Scaling:
    • Define and continuously improve PMO governance, tools, and reporting standards.
    • Ensure consistency while allowing flexibility for different client, regulatory, and service‑line needs.
    • Contribute to firm‑wide operational maturity as the company scales geographically and by service offering.

Benefits

  • Local and overnight travel up to 10% is expected for this position.
