Role Description

Responsible for activities related to the construction, building and commissioning on customer site, from site mobilization, through civil, erection and commissioning work, as well as management activities related to this scope. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Functionally develop, manage and deliver the means and methods of the commissioning execution strategy, schedule and cost.
  • Ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with the site EHS plan requirements and specifically defined safe systems of work.
  • Coordinate contractual tests with the customer, ensuring adequacy with contract and turnover to customer without defects, follow-up of punch list items.
  • Manage, assess, supervise, support and promote the commissioning and other personnel assigned.
  • Ensure quality compliance for your scope of work by delegating responsibilities within your team, complying with all inspections, tests and witness points as contractually required and obtaining/producing quality records.
  • Ensure commissioning is performed according to specifications, engineering and commissioning documents, considering safety instructions, environmental protection measures and local regulations.
  • Accept the turnover of systems from construction to commissioning and execute the turnover from commissioning to the customer in accordance with current procedure/work instruction and the contract.
  • Manage, perform, coordinate and monitor the commissioning of systems specified within the scope of work according to time schedule and contract, in arrangement with the Site Manager, project management and customer.
  • Experience in project risk review and follow-up for mitigation planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; awareness of competition and differentiating factors in the market.
  • Use judgment and ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.
  • Identify and analyze technical problems, watch for defects and find solutions, ask for adequate technical support, report problems.

Qualifications

  • Commissioning experience and knowledge on Combine Cycle Power Plants (CCPP) and Aeroderivative Power Plants.
  • Experience leading a team of supervisors and technicians in executing pre-commissioning and commissioning.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving capability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 10 years of experience in Commissioning).
  • Willingness to travel worldwide for long-term assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills.
  • Previous experience as a Commissioning Manager for CCPP or other Power Plant types.
  • Strong team player and motivator with influence and power of persuasion.
  • Preferred location: Houston, Atlanta or Schenectady, but willing to consider other qualified candidates willing to travel as needed.
