Role Description

We are looking for a Staff Product Engineer to lead the architectural vision of our backend, joining our Intelligent Edge team, extending the OpenTelemetry Collector with capabilities to reduce the vast amount of data in a smart and efficient way, allowing customers to cut through the noise of big OpenTelemetry installations.

• Architect for massive scale and complexity.
• Provide technical leadership for core ingestion and processing pipelines.
• Process and manipulate telemetry data at scale.
• Avoid single-points of failure while delivering novel approaches to telemetry volume management.
• Own the reliability of the platform, proactively identifying risks before they become incidents.
• Foster a security-first culture and ensure world-class monitoring efforts.
• Define standards for code quality, testing, and observability.
• Mentor others, review PRDs for technical feasibility, and simplify complex technical designs to align with product goals.

Qualifications

• Deep architectural expertise in building and scaling distributed backend systems using Go.
• Solid knowledge of Kafka and messaging systems.
• Expertly leverages AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate development.
• Strong product and economic thinking.
• Natural mentor and cultural leader with a track record of improving team processes.
• Lives and breathes Observability, contributing to improving observability in engineering practices.

Requirements

• Within 1 week, ship your first piece of production-ready code.
• Within 3 months, extend pipeline mechanisms with new aggregation and sampling capabilities.
• Within 6 months, establish new architectural patterns for Go services and OpenTelemetry Collector distributions.
• Within 12 months, become a technical authority for the Intelligent Edge strategy.
