[Hiring] Youth Mental Health and Substance Use Counsellor @Providence Health Care

Role Description

Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, Virtual Clinic Services, this position works as part of an interprofessional team to provide online clinical services to youth and young adults with, and affected by, mental health and substance use concerns. Key responsibilities include:

• Assessing clients and determining referral needs.
• Providing online individual counselling, group and family interventions, and education.
• Liaising with community resources.
• Formulating and implementing treatment plans.
• Providing comprehensive case consultation and follow-up support on treatment decisions.
• Participating in team and/or local committees, internal and external case conferences, and quality improvement activities.
• Collaborating with other community service providers and related disciplines to provide education and training related to mental/substance use.
• Providing input into the development, evaluation, and delivery of the Foundry Virtual Clinic Services.

Qualifications

• Masters' Degree in a relevant health-related discipline such as Social Work, Clinical Counselling, or Clinical Psychology from an accredited university.
• Two (2) years' recent, related experience working with youth and young adults across the mental health and substance use continuum.
• Eligible for registration with affiliated professional body.
• A minimum of one year of experience working in a rural or remote community supporting youth or young adults in mental health, substance or related field.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent and young adult mental health and substance use issues.
• Knowledge of community response procedures, general counselling principles, and intervention techniques.
• Knowledge of Systems Theory and its application in mental health assessments and interventions.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments using standardized frameworks and tools.
• Skill in crisis intervention with adolescents and families.
• Ability to create and maintain trusting relationships with youth and families.
• Effective communication skills in a multicultural environment.
• Proficiency in using personal computers for service delivery.
• Physical ability to carry out duties, including travel to rural or remote communities.
• Experience in providing therapeutic clinical counselling services.
• Ability to assess client needs and develop care options with client input.
• Experience in delivering online group intervention services.
• Ability to maintain appropriate clinical records in accordance with established standards.
• Participation in team and/or local committees and internal and external case conferences.
• Development of psychoeducational resources for clients, families, and staff members.
• Collaboration in the development and delivery of staff and physician education and training.
• Teaching and supervision of student interns as assigned.
• Knowledge of developments in mental health and substance use through literature review and professional development.
• Participation in the ongoing development and evaluation of Foundry Virtual Care services.
