Role Description

Join a mission-driven organization dedicated to advancing patient safety, healthcare quality, and risk reduction across leading academic medical centers. The Vice President, Patient Safety & Loss Prevention (PSLP), partners closely with the Chief Medical Officer to support the development and execution of patient safety and loss prevention initiatives. This role provides leadership for departmental operations, key programs, and subscriber services, while fostering strong relationships with healthcare leaders and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and strategic healthcare leader who is passionate about improving patient outcomes, strengthening a culture of safety, and translating organizational priorities into meaningful results.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree required; advanced degree in healthcare, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related healthcare discipline required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare administration, risk management, loss prevention, patient safety, performance improvement, or a related field.
  • Administrative leadership experience in an academic hospital or academic medical center environment required, including experience working extensively with clinical staff and physician leadership.
  • Experience working for or consulting with large integrated healthcare delivery systems and leading loss prevention, patient safety, risk reduction, or performance improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, budget oversight, data analysis, and the development, coordination, and monitoring of complex clinical or operational initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare data and data analytics, including the ability to interpret harm, claims, and risk-related data and translate findings into meaningful insights and recommendations for subscribers.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI and AI-enabled tools to streamline personal and team workflows, improve efficiency, support decision-making, and enhance execution of departmental priorities.
  • Certification in patient safety, healthcare risk management, or healthcare quality preferred.

Requirements

  • Operational leadership and strategic support in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer to advance PSLP priorities.
  • Accountable for department-wide PSLP operations, priorities, and results.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of PSLP policies, practices, and standards.
  • Supports the Chief Medical Officer in PSLP Committee work.
  • Serves as an external-facing MCIC leader and trusted thought partner to subscribers.
  • Translates enterprise priorities into PSLP initiatives and measurable outcomes.
  • Works with MCIC’s Data Analytics team and subscribers to support development of metrics and benchmarks.
  • Monitors healthcare trends, technologies, and regulatory developments affecting patient safety.
  • Applies expertise to advance evidence-based clinical risk reduction and patient safety initiatives.
  • Sponsors core practices maturity frameworks and shared learning structures.
  • Builds and sustains shared learning networks, affinity groups, collaboratives, and hospital participation models.
  • Oversees medico-legal education and patient safety learning sessions.
  • Provides day-to-day operational leadership for the PSLP department.
  • Oversees PSLP individual employee goal setting.
  • Coordinates PSLP operational support for interdepartmental functions.
  • Partners with the Chief Medical Officer to lead departmental planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Provides leadership to the PSO and oversees PSLP-related contracts.
  • Oversees the Patient Safety Awards Program.
