[Hiring] Utilization Nurse - Referral & Auth @Hoag

Role Description

The Utilization Nurse utilizes clinical expertise, discretion, and independent judgment to utilization management and care coordination methodologies and practices, focusing on the needs of Hoag Hospital and its affiliates (the “Organization”) patient population in partnership with the Organization’s physicians, staff, and inpatient providers.

• Responsible to determine medical necessity of inpatient utilization that includes but not limited to:
• IP admission
• Continued stay (concurrent)
• Observation days
• Assist in the implementation of the discharge plan based upon:
• Physician’s treatment plan/order
• Patient’s plan benefits
• Contracted providers/vendors
• Medical appropriateness
• Responsible for medical necessity review of incoming referrals, including:
• Pre-Service
• Retro
• Post Claims requests
• Review submitted requests and supporting clinical records for:
• Medical Necessity
• Clinical Appropriateness
• Standards of Care
• Experimental and Investigational services
• Efficient use of health care services consistent with Federal, State, Health Plan, Accreditation (URAC, NCQA) and national evidence-based clinical criteria/guidelines
