[Hiring] Team Lead - Pharmacy Technician Trainer @IU Health

Role Description

The Pharmacy Technician Team Lead Trainer is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of training and quality programs for the Centralized Refill Team. This role serves as the primary technician trainer and subject matter expert for onboarding, competency assessment, workflow education, and quality monitoring initiatives. The Team Lead partners with leadership to ensure consistent training practices, promote operational excellence, and support the continued growth of the Centralized Refill Team.

This position conducts virtual training for team members across multiple regions and may require occasional travel to the IU Health Integrated Service Center (ISC) in Plainfield, Indiana, for training, meetings, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Training & Development
  • Serve as the primary trainer for newly hired Centralized Refill Team employees.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve onboarding and training programs.
  • Create and update training materials, job aids, workflow documentation, and competency assessments.
  • Conduct virtual training sessions for technicians, pharmacists, and other refill team members.
  • Coordinate and facilitate ongoing education and refresher training programs.
  • Partner with leadership and subject matter experts to ensure training content reflects current workflows, policies, and protocols.
• Quality & Auditing
  • Perform routine quality audits for all Centralized Refill Team employees.
  • Monitor adherence to refill protocols, workflows, and quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and provide coaching and education based on audit findings.
  • Track audit results and quality metrics to identify trends and training needs.
  • Collaborate with leadership on performance improvement initiatives and quality projects.
• Operational Leadership
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for team members.
  • Assist with workflow implementation, process improvement initiatives, and change management efforts.
  • Support the development of standardized training and competency programs across specialties.
  • Participate in projects related to centralized refill operations, protocol implementation, and team expansion.
  • Assist leadership with special assignments and operational initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

• Active Pharmacy Technician license as required by state and organizational standards.
• Demonstrated experience in pharmacy operations and refill workflows.
• Strong communication, organization, and presentation skills.
• Ability to effectively train and coach employees in a virtual environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and virtual meeting platforms (Teams).
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience training or mentoring staff.
• Experience conducting quality audits or performance reviews.
• Experience developing training materials, workflows, or standard operating procedures.
• Knowledge of ambulatory pharmacy or centralized refill operations.
• Leadership or team lead experience preferred.

Working Conditions

• Primarily remote/virtual work environment.
• Frequent virtual training and collaboration with employees across multiple locations.
• Occasional travel to the Integrated Service Center (ISC) in Plainfield, Indiana, and other locations as needed.
• May periodically require adjusted work hours to accommodate onboarding schedules and training needs.
