Role Description
The Surveyor Hospital MD surveys health care organizations throughout the United States. Responsibilities include:

Applying systems analysis skills and inductive reasoning skills to determine health care organizations' degree of compliance with applicable standards and functionality of care delivery systems.

Engaging health care organization staff in interactive dialogues on standards-based issues in health care to assess compliance and identify opportunities for improving compliance.

Preparing management reports that clearly link individual standards deficiencies with potential systems vulnerabilities and related organization risk points.

Effectively communicating this information to health care organization leadership in a constructive and collegial style.

Participating in other Joint Commission activities as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) required.

Current professional license in discipline and Board Certification required at time of hire and must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.

Five years of experience working in various components of a hospital and health care system, including:
-
Three years direct clinical experience.

Two years leadership/management experience.
-
CPHQ certification (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) through National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) required at time of hire or must be attained by 12/31/28.

Knowledge of the Joint Commission accreditation process.

Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
-
Strong interpersonal, interviewing, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
Requirements

Must be able to observe, in real time, all applicable types of ongoing health care treatment without interrupting the progress.

Physical abilities include:
-
Standing for long periods of time.
-
Walking lengthy distances.
-
Lifting, climbing, stooping, pulling, and pushing to inspect and observe all medical facilities, equipment, and procedures.

Walking up and down stairways to test escape routes and assess safety of emergency exits.
-
Removing obstructed covers or impediments to equipment or other mechanical areas.

Examining small and often dirty printed labels and print on equipment.

Must be able to engage in extensive travel, including:
-
Driving to remote locations.
-
Flying on small airplanes and into small airports.
-
Traveling in all types of weather conditions.
