Role Description
The specialty pharmacy provides complex, high dollar medication therapies to patients with serious and life-threatening health conditions such as transplant, HIV, multiple sclerosis, and cancer. These medications require special handling and intensive patient management touchpoints to ensure patient medication adherence to lower overall healthcare costs and reduce readmission rates.
The specialty pharmacy liaison is responsible for the intensive patient care management, representing the CommonSpirit Health Specialty Pharmacy and operating as a liaison between:

Pharmacy

Billing

Insurance providers

Patient communities

Social services

Other involved parties
Key responsibilities include:

Increasing prescription capture, medication adherence, and patient retention using various tools and applications.

Encouraging patients of specialty clinics and employees to utilize pharmacy services.

Assisting in marketing efforts to increase revenue and capture patient prescription volume.
-
Informing pharmacy leaders about changes in the marketplace and physician patterns.
-
Participating in process improvement standards and community outreach events.
-
Staying up to date on training and maintaining accreditation standards.

Performing prescription dispensing duties (e.g., data entry, filling, selling).
As an insurance specialist, responsibilities include:

Expediting the prescription filling process.

Obtaining benefit information and verifying patient insurance eligibility.
-
Understanding Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing guidelines.
-
Processing medication orders and confirming billing to third parties.
-
Initiating and assisting with the Prior Authorization and Patient Prescription Financial Assistance processes.

Coordinating medication deliveries/pick-ups with the dispensing pharmacy.
For patient and provider services:

Exemplifying excellent customer service during interactions.

Representing on-site/off-site Specialty Pharmacy and answering questions.

Working with referring providers and clinic staff to ensure timely medication delivery.
-
Communicating with patients to ensure adherence through prescription refills and check-ins.
-
Monitoring patient charts and profiles to meet therapy needs.
-
Influencing and motivating others to coordinate projects and resources.
For medication management:

Reviewing medication regimens with pharmacists for timely dispensing.

Staying informed of medications available within the pharmacy and industry.

Participating in clinical training for Specialty disease states.
Qualifications
-
High School Graduate and active Pharmacy Technician license.

4-5 years as a pharmacy technician or a combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Pharmacy Tech license.
-
Certified Pharmacy Tech PTCB, ECPT or CPHT certification.
