[Hiring] Physician - Sleep Deputy Chief @San Francisco VA Medical Center

Role Description

The VISN 21 CRH Sleep Deputy Chief will support the VISN 21 CRH Sleep Section Chief to ensure CRH Sleep services are completed at the highest standard, in alignment with national CRH standards following specific CRH, telehealth, and other pertinent program office policies and procedures. The VISN 21 CRH Sleep Deputy Chief is required to exercise a high level of organizational skill, independent judgement, and problem-solving ability, and must have the ability to communicate effectively with field staff and CRH leadership.

Major Duties include but are not limited to:

• Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing incoming consults to determine whether patients would benefit from care through the CRH program.
  • Providing electronic consultation to health care professionals and other sleep specialists as appropriate.
  • Conducting visits and providing care through telehealth (video visits to home, video visits between facilities, and asynchronous care across facilities).
  • Providing care to Veterans, including coordination of care with the patient's home facility and within the CRH.
  • Performing comprehensive evaluations of patients presenting with sleep disorders and managing patients with sleep disorders.
  • Ordering, administering, and interpreting physiological, psychological, behavioral, and cognitive tests.
  • Determining when appropriate physiological, behavioral, and psychological interventions are necessary to treat the comprehensive range of sleep disorders and related health conditions.
  • Prescribing medications within defined scope of practice.
  • Initiating, responding, and expediting requests for consultations, special tests, and studies.
  • Providing education and counseling for patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Participating in interprofessional focused patient chart reviews, team meetings, team huddles, and shared medical appointments as appropriate.
• Administrative Duties:
  • Assisting the CRH Sleep Section Chief with responsibilities for organizing and directing the day-to-day operations of the VISN CRH Sleep program and CRH Sleep staff.
  • Ensuring efficient day-to-day operations of the VISN CRH Sleep service are met in collaboration with the Section Chief.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Completed an accredited sleep medicine fellowship and be board certified in the specialty of Sleep Medicine.

Requirements

• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Prior telework experience.
• Leadership experience and at least 5 years of independent practice in sleep medicine are preferred.
