[Hiring] Physician - Diagnostic Radiologist @Las Vegas VA Medical Center

Role Description

The position is located at Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS). The physician shall provide Radiology services in support of the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, and its clinics such as, but not limited to:

• Basic radiology and x-ray services
• Fluoroscopy
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging
• Computed Tomography
• Nuclear Medicine
• Mammography
• Ultrasound
• Bone Densitometry

Provides radiology diagnostic interpretations for the purpose of assisting other specialty services in the screening, assessment, diagnosis, and interventional treatment of medical conditions of the patient population.

Promotes communication/interactions between medical team members, patients, and their families to facilitate the medical treatment process.

Provides clinical supervision to residents, students, and interns when applicable.

Follows the guidelines of the American College of Radiology (ACR) in regard to the Standard of Practice, and they are guided by the Appropriateness Criteria developed by the ACR.

As licensed independent practitioners, radiologists may limit an ordered study if indicated due to patient condition or clear an obvious order error. Radiologists may modify test protocol, such as limit the use of contrast. If altering an exam, the Radiologist or their surrogate must take care to consult with the treating physician when necessary, and if possible. Radiologists will act in the patient's interest in ensuring studies are indicated and safe.

Complete clinical documentation and attach it to appropriate encounter for accurate workload capture.

Qualifications

• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• Approved schools are:
  • Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • For foreign medical graduates, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
• Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Requirements

• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
• Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
• In rare and unusual circumstances, the Facility Director can submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer, who may approve requests for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for Physicians whose composite record of experience, accomplishments, performance, and qualifications warrant such action.
