[Hiring] Physician - Clinical Geneticist @San Francisco VA Medical Center

Role Description

The incumbent serves as a Clinical Geneticist with responsibility for delivery of comprehensive genetic care. The position includes:

• Completing a broad range of genetic care needs for VA patients.
• Providing genetic services via multiple modalities, including virtual care.
• Actively participating as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
• Participating in the training of physicians and other health practitioners.
• Coordinating care with other VA clinical services.
• Serving as the collaborating physician for genetic counselors.

Major Duties include but are not limited to:

• Make independent professional decisions and recommendations.
• Participate in the design of service priorities and objectives.
• Create a culture of commitment to quality, education, compassion, collaboration, innovation, accountability, integrity, and creative problem solving.
• Participate in the development of clinical protocols to ensure evidence-based use of genetic services, including germline genetic testing.
• Deliver high quality of genetic care, including evaluation of performance with respect to standards of care, clinical effectiveness, compliance with policies and quality improvement.
• Use systems-based methods to achieve optimal care coordination.
• Serve as the collaborating physician for genetic counselors, including participation in periodic meetings and responding to clinical questions.
• Participate in meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, and symposia to maintain expertise in clinical genetics.
• Serve as a member to relevant VA committees and assumes a subject matter expert role.
• Assist with the implementation of new genetic practices.

Qualifications

• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• United States Citizenship.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Board Certified in Clinical Genetics and Genomics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.

Requirements

• Experience providing genetic evaluation of adult patients for various indications (oncology, cardiology, neurology, reproductive, connective tissue, etc).
• Experience providing genetic consultation via telehealth, including video and telephone.
• Board certification through training through an American Board of Internal Medicine accredited program is preferred.
