Role Description

The Intern of Pharmacy position is for employees actively enrolled as a student in a health professions education degree program with a college or university. The intern works as an extension of the pharmacist, performing duties related to patient, provider, and customer care under the supervision of a pharmacist. The intern has responsibility with care activities which may include (but not limited to):

• Sterile product preparation
• Clinical interactions with patients and the care team
• Performance of a majority of pharmacy technical operations

Job Duties:

• Performs the job duties of a pharmacy technician I as needed
• Coordinate with the pharmacist to provide timely, efficient, cost effective, and appropriate pharmaceutical care to the patient while avoiding duplication and waste
• Provide patient/provider/customer care
• Use the pharmacy computer system to facilitate patient care
• Participate in patient/provider/customer care activities that do not require the expertise of a pharmacist
• Prepare and label medications appropriately for distribution
• Retrieve, review, and perform inventory management for medications and supplies in the pharmacy
• Maintain pharmacy records
• Perform housekeeping duties in the pharmacy in compliance with hospital and accreditation policies
• Participate in the onboarding and training of new pharmacy personnel
• Complete additional projects or activities as assigned by their manager

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) - Required
• Registered as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee, a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern - Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy
