Role Description
The Pharmacist I, Prescription Verification is responsible for managing the end-to-end prescription intake process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role serves as a critical liaison between healthcare providers, patients, and the pharmacy team, facilitating seamless communication and workflow coordination. Key Responsibilities

Receives incoming prescriptions from various sources, including electronic systems, fax, and phone calls

Verifies patient information, medication details, and prescribing physician's instructions

Accurately enters prescription information into our pharmacy management system, ensuring completeness and compliance with legal and regulatory standards

Performs data verification to minimize errors and discrepancies

Conducts reviews of medication orders to identify potential drug interactions, allergies, dosage discrepancies, and other issues

Collaborates with healthcare providers to resolve any concerns and ensure safe medication therapy

Provides exceptional customer service to patients by addressing inquiries, clarifying medication instructions, and offering counseling on proper medication usage, potential side effects, and interactions

Works closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and healthcare providers to resolve prescription-related issues, clarify medication orders, and ensures timely fulfillment of patient needs

Maintains accurate records of prescription intake activities, including patient profiles, medication histories, and communication logs

Adheres to confidentiality protocols and HIPAA regulations

Performs routine checks and audits to ensure the accuracy and integrity of prescription data entry and documentation

Identifies and addresses any discrepancies or potential errors promptly

Stays updated on changes in pharmacy regulations, guidelines, and best practices related to prescription intake processes

Participates in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy

Current and active pharmacist license in Texas

3+ years of experience with a focus on prescription intake and prior authorization

Excellent knowledge of medical and biological terminology

Strong patient service skills

Excellent knowledge of chemistry and specific drug interactions

Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, keyboards, telephone systems, and pharmacy equipment

Ability to read and interpret data on computer screens and printed documents for extended periods
