Role Description

This position is remote.

The Complex Coder is responsible for accurately coding professional bedside services in acute hospital settings rendered by employed and contracted providers. This multispecialty professional-fee coding position supports providers across a broad range of medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties requiring the ability to interpret diverse clinical documentation and apply appropriate coding guidelines across a wide variety of patient populations, diagnoses, procedures, and clinical scenarios.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and analyze diagnostic and procedural information from patient medical records using established coding principles.
• Code complex outpatient cases with precision to support accurate reimbursement and billing processes.
• Abstract and compile patient data for medical research projects, care evaluation, and administrative decision-making.
• Maintain strict adherence to coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and quality benchmarks.
• Contribute to provider-patient continuity through accurate, reliable data management.
• Optimize reimbursement outcomes while maintaining coding accuracy and integrity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
• Additional specialty coding certification required or five (5) years coding experience.
• One to two (1-2) years college or additional coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration or Medical Record Sciences preferred.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.
• Minimum of two (2) years coding experience required.
• Specialty coding experience preferred.

Requirements

• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), CPC, or CCS certification required.
