Role Description
The Medical Records Specialist plays an integral role within the company by responding to requests for medical record information and ensuring confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA laws. In addition to the above duties, the Medical Records Specialist analyzes contents of the medical record documents and notifies providers to request for release of documents per the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Responds to all requests for medical record information from various requestors including health care providers, patients, attorneys, third-party payors, disability, subpoenas, and internal requestors.

Ensures confidentiality of Release of Information in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) federal regulations, state regulations, and CHS policy.

Analyze content of the medical record documents to determine if information needs to be scanned.

Scan medical record using scanner into the appropriate Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Analyze medical records and information to ensure compliance with HIPAA, state, federal, and CHS Privacy Policies for release of documentation.

Notify providers to request approval for release of documents per policies and via the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Appropriately escalates unresolved and frequent medical records issues to management.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
This is a fully remote position in these states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MT, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI.
Qualifications

2 years of professional experience with medical records.

High school diploma.

1 year of customer service experience.

Familiar with federal and state laws and regulations concerning medical records, including HIPAA Standards.

Excellent organizational skills and able to work in a team-centered environment.

Ability to work effectively with other departments, physicians, and all ancillary staff.

Must be able to relate well to people both inside and outside the organization; build appropriate rapport; uses diplomacy and tact; can diffuse high-tension situations.

Strong computer skills with emphasis on Adobe PDF, MS Office Word, and Excel.
