Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing & Claims Specialist Virtual Assistant to support our growing healthcare team as we transition our billing operations in-house. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with medical billing, insurance claims processing, pre-authorizations, and payer follow-up. Experience with Availity is highly preferred.
In addition to billing-related responsibilities, this individual will assist with administrative tasks to help ensure smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities

Process and submit medical claims accurately and in a timely manner

Follow up on outstanding claims with insurance companies

Research and resolve denied, rejected, or unpaid claims

Track claim status and ensure proper reimbursement

Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and payment postings

Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits
-
Submit and track prior authorizations (pre-auths)

Coordinate with providers, insurance carriers, and patients regarding billing concerns

Maintain accurate billing documentation and records
-
Assist with general administrative and clerical tasks

Maintain and update patient records and databases
-
Manage emails and billing-related correspondence
-
Support scheduling and other operational workflows as needed

Assist with reporting and documentation requests
Qualifications
-
Previous experience in medical billing and claims processing required

Strong understanding of insurance verification, claims follow-up, denials management, and prior authorizations

Experience using Availity strongly preferred

Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and medical billing software

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Basic Requirements

Must be proficient in speaking and writing English very clearly

Must have relevant work experience

Be able to submit an NBI clearance and/or Local Police Clearance background check before onboarding [mandatory]

Must be available for video meetings with your camera on (when needed)
