[Hiring] Medical Assistant I - Pre Triage @IU Health

Role Description

We are seeking experienced Medical Assistants to join our statewide Neurosciences Pre-Triage Pod, providing exceptional telephone-based clinical support to patients with clinical concerns and needs related to Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pain Management, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R). This position offers an excellent opportunity for a medical assistant who is passionate about clinical care, enhancing the patient experience, and improving access to high-quality healthcare across a large, integrated health system.

Location: Remote

Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00AM – 4:30PM with flexibility

Typical Responsibilities

• Assessing patient concerns through telephone interactions
• Identifying issues that require escalation to RN Triage
• Connecting patients with the appropriate providers and care teams
• Supporting patients across the state in navigating their care needs
• Helping improve access to timely, high-quality healthcare

Qualifications

• AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• New hires and promotions after October 5th, 2025, will require graduation from a Medical Assistant program
• Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
• TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire may be required
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred
• Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire
• Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
• Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
• Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
• Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills
