Role Description

The Medical Assistant supports patient care in a virtual, team-based environment, assisting providers with both clinical and administrative tasks to ensure a smooth and positive patient experience.

• Virtually rooming patients
• Providing technical support for patients to access virtual visits and complete registration
• Managing work queues and prior authorizations
• Performing medication reconciliations and pharmacy confirmations
• Processing in-basket messages and coordination of care
• Communicating extensively with patients by phone

Schedule:

• Both weekday and weekend shift coverage
• Minimum weekend commitment:
  • 1 weekend day 8:30am – 6:00pm or
  • 2 weekend half shifts (8:30am – 1:00pm or 1:30pm – 6:00pm) per month
• Preference given to candidates who reside in Maine or NH
• Candidate must be located within Eastern Standard Time Zone

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed
  • Completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting
  • 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis)

Requirements

• Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT certification required (Prior to 5/01/25 MA IIs with 10 years MA experience and employed by MaineHealth as a MA in the most recent 5 years are exempt from certification requirement)
• Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date
• Fully remote care team members are exempt from BLS certification requirement
• A NH Med Tech License, or NH EMT and National Registry EMT license is required for those positions located in New Hampshire
• Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or one year as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant

The pay range for this position is $21.09 to $27.12 per hour. Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
