Role Description

Perform radiation dose reconstructions for claims in support of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Dose Reconstruction Project and in accordance with the applicable requirements of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000.

• Apply methods for estimating the external and internal dose levels of ionizing radiation incurred by workers in the performance of duty for the Department of Energy and its predecessor agencies.
• Utilize project documents, procedures, reports, applicable records, and tools to reconstruct occupational external and internal radiation doses to the organ(s) of interest.
• Use of the Integrated Modules for Bioassay Assessment (IMBA) software to calculate intakes.
• Use of the Interactive Radio Epidemiological Program (IREP) to calculate the probability of causation.
• Write a detailed report that clearly and accurately reflects the methodology used in the dose assessment.
• Provide high-quality and accurate dose assessments in a timely manner.
• Use various databases to retrieve data, check claims in and out of the system and obtain specific claim information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health physics or related field and 3 to 5 years of job-related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience requiring similar knowledge, skills, abilities, and performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
• Understanding of DOE’s radiation monitoring programs.
• Strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to plan work daily to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
• Proper handling and safeguarding protected and unprotected Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI level security clearance.
• Knowledge of internal and external dosimetry practices.
• Technical ability to effectively manage large data sets.
• Some knowledge of statistical analysis and methods.
• Ability to meet frequent deadlines under production pressure for conducting dose reconstructions for new and reworked claims under the EEOICPA.
