Role Description

The Haitian Creole Medical Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) will cover a wide range of shifts to serve our limited English proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of medical settings via video.

AMN Healthcare Language Services is a technology-driven company changing the way patients and medical professionals connect across all areas of healthcare. We are seeking professional and diverse, culturally competent, and credentialed Medical Video Remote Interpreters to join our skillful team to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and their patients, regardless of language or cultural barrier.

VRI Responsibilities

  • Provide effective over-the-phone interpreting service for consumers.
  • Always exhibit professional skills and conduct during calls.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
  • Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
  • Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to medical procedures.
  • Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.

Qualifications

  • Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (Spanish-to-English or vice-a-versa).
  • Successful completion of a medical language proficiency assessment focused on interpreter protocols and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
  • HIPAA compliant work environment/setting.

Requirements

  • Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
  • National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI or NBCMI.
  • Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (i.e.: ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
  • 2 years of medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical setting.
