Role Description

This is an opportunity to lead, influence, and shape high-quality addiction services across two locations — combining strategic leadership with direct clinical impact.

Working across Reading and Swindon, you will bring consistency, expertise, and clinical leadership to both services, ensuring that people receive the right care, at the right time, in the right way.

As a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist, you will play a pivotal role in leading multi-disciplinary teams and driving clinical excellence. You will:

• Provide expert clinical leadership and direction across both services
• Ensure delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment aligned to best practice
• Support and develop clinical teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
• Work collaboratively with senior leaders to meet service objectives and contractual requirements
• Contribute to service development, shaping how care is delivered across both Reading and Swindon

This is a split-site role, requiring a regular presence across both locations:

• Reading – 4 days per week (0.8 WTE)
• Swindon – 1 day per week (0.2 WTE)

Hours: Full time, 37.5 per week*

Contract Type: Permanent

* Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

**Salary is subject to review in line with the 2025/26 pay award.

Responsibilities

• Provide a clinical assessment, including relevant psychiatric and physical investigation and reviews, of a wide range of substance misusers presenting to the service
• Operate within guidelines, policies and procedures relevant to the post
• Conduct phlebotomy tests and support nursing team in ensuring that the maximum number of service users are tested for BBVs and vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B
• Attend multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate
• Participate in continuing professional development, annual appraisal and revalidation and to join appropriate supervision and PDP groups for the role
• Work in partnership with users and carers so that they are fully involved in and empowered to make decisions about their treatment and care
• Remain up to date on professional developments as required by their professional body

Qualifications

• Medical Degree and completion of Basic Medical Training and Full GMC UK Registration with License to Practice
• MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
• Good knowledge of addiction psychiatry and legislation relating to Mental Health
• An understanding of the work of other agencies including non-statutory services
• Experience of working with substance misuse and mental health issues and a clear understanding of the need for and ability to deliver quality services
• Show a capacity to work alone and the ability to keep calm under pressure.

Salary Range

Consultant Addictions Psychiatrist (£138,714.28 - £149,713.64)
