• Work within a patient/client and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model.
• Deliver services to clients experiencing various levels of substance misuse and mental health issues.
• Provide culturally appropriate treatment and case management services in person and/or virtually for Indigenous peoples.
• Conduct independent substance use and mental health screening and comprehensive biopsychosocial-spiritual assessments.
• Provide appropriate treatment/support including individual and group therapy, couples and family therapy, and education.
• Establish and maintain non-judgmental therapeutic relationships with clients.
• Collaborate and consult with colleagues and community resources, including Indigenous communities.
• Participate in case conferences, team meetings, continuing education, and corporate initiatives.
• Engage in ongoing team planning, development, evaluation, and quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Masters' Degree in a Behavioural Health Science from a recognized program.
• Three years recent related experience working with Indigenous community health services.
• Experience providing professional services to individuals with problematic substance misuse and/or mental health illness.
• Comprehensive knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counselling skills.
• Broad knowledge of Indigenous healing modalities and cultures.
• Knowledge of bio-psycho-social issues related to mental health and substance misuse.
• Understanding of DSM IV diagnostic classification system and case formulation.
• Knowledge of psychopharmacology and relevant legislation.
• General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety and provide competent care.
• Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to analyze and problem-solve in pressure situations.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system.

Requirements

• This position is primarily remote, with service generally delivered in a virtual format.
• Occasional travel to Bella Coola is required as part of the role.
• Successful candidates must attend a VCH site for technical support and operational needs.
• Travel will be arranged from Vancouver, with eligible expenses reimbursed.
• Hours of work may change consistent with operational requirements.
• Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
• All health care workers must report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
