Role Description

Join Stroke Aotearoa as a Community Stroke Navigator (Kaiārahi) for the Manawatu, Whanganui and Hawkes Bay regions and play a vital role in advancing our mission to prevent stroke and improve lives. This role is about working alongside communities - building relationships, identifying need, and supporting people to better understand and manage their stroke risk.

• Work closely with people affected by stroke, community groups, health providers, and other key stakeholders.
• Strengthen community resilience and wellbeing.
• Connect people to the right information and resources.
• Amplify local capability and maximise the impact of Stroke Aotearoa’s mahi across the region.

Qualifications

• Experience working in the health, community, rehabilitation, or disability sectors.
• Independent self-starter with the ability to communicate with empathy.
• Experience working with vulnerable and diverse communities.
• Confident facilitator, presenter, and networker.
• Well-developed time management and organisational skills.
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant subject area or equivalent experience.
• Competent using the Microsoft Suite of products (specifically MSWord, TEAMS, and PowerPoint).

Requirements

• Resourceful and self-motivated.
• Knowledge of the effects of stroke and strategies for day-to-day management (additional training provided).
• Understanding of responsibilities to Te Tiriti o Waitangi to support equitable health outcomes.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
• Able to travel regionally with some nights away from home.
• Must have a full clean driver’s licence and be currently eligible to work within New Zealand.
