Role Description

The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate evidence-based medical nutrition therapy that is integrated and compatible with the patient-focused medical goals. Primary responsibilities include:

• Application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), through nutrition-focused physical exam, nutrition/malnutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, interventions, monitoring, and evaluating of the patient's progress.
• Using practice-specific dietetics and evidence-based practice protocols/nutrition practice guidelines to determine nutrition intervention.
• Performing business functions, such as management of resources in a cost-effective manner.
• Participating in compliance and quality performance improvement efforts to ensure that nutrition care is safe and effective.
• Being an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, involved in team conferences, providing nutrition-related in-services, and contributing to the development and revision of hospital policies.
• Possibly involved in community-based nutrition programs and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
• Precepting interns and supporting and training clinical dietitians in the core behaviors and responsibilities of the department and organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required from a US regionally accredited university or college with coursework accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
• Master's in related Dietitian field for new graduates becoming licensed after 1/1/2024.
• Completion of a Coordinated Program in Dietetics or Dietetic Internship accredited by ACEND of no less than 900 hours (1200 hours for graduates of programs beginning 2012).

Requirements

• Registered Dietitian (RD) by The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR).
• Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.
• Some positions may require appropriate credentialing for billing purposes (e.g. NPI, Medicare/Medicaid Provider, BCBSNC Provider) to be obtained within one (1) month from date of hire.
• No prior experience required except for specific positions.
• UNCMC Cardiac Rehab: Two (2) years as a clinical dietitian in a cardiac rehabilitation program or outpatient cardiology clinic.

Benefits

• Salary range: $26.85 - $38.61 per hour (Hiring Range).
