Role Description

We are looking for an individual to join our client’s team as Certified Medical Coder to focus on inpatient coding in an acute care setting. The ideal candidate will accurately code inpatient medical records, ensure compliance with federal, payer, and facility coding guidelines, and support coding quality and accuracy within the organization.

• Assign the principal diagnosis, secondary diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient discharges, Ambulatory Surgery and ER visits, utilizing 3M HDM coding system, EPIC Electronic Medical Record.
• Report on Congenital Malformation to the State.
• Analyze the discharged patient’s medical record for completeness and accuracy, to ensure that they are following hospital, corporate and outside Government Agencies standards.
• Generate queries for documentation specialist for query follow-up.
• Interact with Clinical Documentation Specialists for query follow-up.
• Maintain confidentiality of information from patient’s medical records.
• Perform concurrent and retrospective clinical documentation review and provide data when necessary.
• Work with other departments to ensure that accurate reporting and reimbursement are facilitated.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Manager / Director.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of inpatient coding experience required.
• Strong expertise in 3M, Windows, and EPIC systems required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of coding, current coding guidelines, anatomy and physiology, ICD 10 classification systems and NYS & TJC record documentation guidelines.

Requirements

• Completion of High School and Some College.
• Successful Completion of a coding program.
• Healthcare coding or health information certifications such as CCS, RHIA, RHIT, or CCP required.
• Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM | 4 weekdays and 1 weekend day.
• Candidates must be comfortable working in the Eastern Time Zone.

Benefits

• Pay Rate: $32–$38 per hour, based on experience, skills, and market factors.
