Role Description
As a Cancer Registrar II, you'll be an essential part of the mission at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK)βcapturing and curating the critical data that drives lifesaving discoveries, informs treatment decisions, and shapes the future of oncology. Your expertise ensures the accuracy and integrity of MSK's cancer registry, directly supporting groundbreaking research and exceptional patient outcomes.

Review electronic medical records to determine patient eligibility for inclusion in the Cancer Registry Database

Abstract demographic, clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and epidemiologic data per established standards (ACoS/CoC, SEER, AJCC, NYS DOH)

Accession all reportable malignancies and "reportable by agreement" tumors within required regulatory timeframes

Assign appropriate case status and analyze complete patient medical records using current oncology data standards

Enter accurate codes and text into the Metriq cancer registry software, including demographics, staging, treatment, recurrence, and disease status

Complete an average of 8 full case equivalents per day

Ensure data quality through self-review, validation metafiles, and prompt correction of errors identified by QA coordinators

Maintain high accuracy rates as measured by internal QA review and NYS DOH error reports

Support special projects and priority cases as assigned by the Registry Manager
Qualifications

Current Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification or Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification

4+ years of current experience abstracting cases in an accredited facility

Associate's degree or certified vocational training with 7β10 years of relevant experience preferred; bachelor's degree preferred

At least 2 years of practical abstracting experience using DxYr2018 (or current) oncology coding

Current hands-on experience with Metriq cancer registry software
Requirements

Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and malignancy disease processes

Strong attention to detail and consistent accuracy in high-volume data abstraction

Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet-based research tools

Ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, and meet regulatory deadlines
