Role Description

RCM Staff BPO is hiring a part-time Medical Billing Specialist to support a mental health practice based in Connecticut. The specialist will handle day-to-day billing for a multi-provider outpatient practice, from claim submission through payment and denial follow-up. This role requires strong attention to detail, consistent follow-up, and experience working with U.S. health insurance plans.

• Review encounters and charges for accuracy before claim submission
• Submit clean claims through the practice management system and clearinghouse
• Work clearinghouse and payer rejections and resubmit corrected claims
• Follow up on unpaid and underpaid claims through payer portals and phone calls
• Research denials, correct and resubmit claims, and prepare appeals when needed
• Post insurance payments and adjustments from ERAs and EOBs
• Verify CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes against documentation and payer rules
• Work aging A/R reports and prioritize accounts by age and dollar value
• Document all account activity clearly in the billing system
• Protect patient information and follow HIPAA requirements

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience with U.S. healthcare insurance
• Hands-on experience with claim submission, denial management, and A/R follow-up
• Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding
• Familiarity with commercial insurance and government health plans
• Experience using payer portals and insurance websites
• Strong written and spoken English
• Excellent attention to detail and follow-up skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple patient accounts
• Reliable internet connection and a suitable remote workspace

Requirements

• AAPC CPC or CPB certification (preferred)
• Experience billing for psychiatry, behavioral health, or mental health practices (preferred)
• Experience using glaceEMR (Glenwood Systems) (preferred)
• Familiarity with Connecticut insurance plans, such as HUSKY Health (Connecticut Medicaid) (preferred)
• Experience with psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy add-on codes (preferred)

Schedule

• Part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week
• Must be available during Eastern Time business hours
• Final schedule will be determined based on practice needs
